oh, you're such a pretty thing. i'll take you and i'll make you all mine.

friends, there are far fewer things more important during finals week than the playlist bumpin' through my headphones. thought i'd share what i've been jammin' to while writing my papers/kind of studying for my friday exam.

from the clouds -- jack johnson (lyrics above; so romantic)
someone like you -- adele
what hurts the most -- rascal flatts (a dramatic interpretation of my finals experience)
don't stop believin' -- journey (just a little hopeful, ya know)
no church in the wild -- kanye west and jay-z (yes, i've been watching the throne)
made in america -- kanye and jay
baby it's cold outside -- dean martin (the best version)

eeeeeeeeee so excited to be done with finals in just about 48 hours!

studyin' studyin' YEAH

(read that title to the tune of the rebecca black classic "friday"--partyin' partyin' YEAH!)

so this week is going to be utterly consumed with finals - studying and writing and more studying - and a helluva lot of procrastination.
weird to think that this is the last time i'll ever do this as an undergrad. almost 7/8ths done with my BA!
so, all the while, i will be day dreaming about the wonderful weekend i just had
(random collection of photos seen above)
and fantasizing about friday night
when my friends and i take on berkeley for one more night of the fall semester!
Happy Monday and happy studying to all of you still taking finals!

*With my besties Kevin and Morgan at Morgan's b-day dinner at BJ's
*My brown eyed girl Riley. We had a photo shoot during my pit stop at home
*Morgan's beer samples at BJ's - homegirl's legal!
*Beet salad nom nom nom
*Christmas tree at the Grove. Who said there wasn't green in LA?

Reasons Why This Weekend Ruled

If you haven't noticed yet, I like lists. A lot. I'm too ADD/scattered to keep track of anything on my own, so I make lists. Obsessively. And no, they don't actually help with the ADD/scattered-ness. Sue me. But here's a list of reasons this weekend knocked my socks off:

On Thursday morning (almost the weekend), I got my 6th and final midterm of the semester back. Expected a C, got 100%. That makes me 6 for 6: 6 A’s on the 6 midterms I took this semester (okay, two were A-'s, but they still count). I'm still really anxious about the papers I have to write, but I'm 4 out of 6 pages done with one!
Right after my midterm, I ate an apple the size of a small pumpkin. For those of you who don’t know me well, I really like apples. I even did my senior year final English presentation on them.
As I was eating the apple, I passed a little old man on campus who was carrying a boombox playing “Rock Around the Clock.” Pretty good omen for the weekend, I’d say.

Thursday night Jasmine and I dressed as Mickey and Minnie for our sorority's invite. We were adorable (as evidenced below).Friday, Jasmine and I declared our second major (American Studies), went to a vegetarian restaurant for dinner (ahhh so exciting for me! Literally an entire menu of food I could choose from), and spent some time in the library. I checked out books from the library for the first time as a Cal student. Big day!

Saturday was Cal Day, my favorite day of the year. We spent the day basking in the sunshine and celebrating the fact that we go to the best school in the world. It was definitely a quintessential college day, complete with shenanigans and mysterious bruises. Wouldn't trade it for the world.Sunday, my sister Paige and my parents came for lunch, and my other sister Kendall came for dinner and to stay the night with me. Food coma, but so nice to see my family and spend some quality time with them.

About to embark on my second to last week of classes! Before school is over, I'll write two more research papers, attend 24 more hours of class, and probably cry at least 3 times. But after that, only two more weeks until glorious summer!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend as well!
be well.

Jordan's Study Survival Guide

I have three midterms this week. THREE. I freak out during weeks I only have one. Adding insult to injury, I am getting sick (or am just paranoid--the far more likely scenario), it's raining, and the promises of spring break sunshine and relaxation are becoming a serious distraction.

Times like these, my blog friends, call for a few things. So, without further ado, I bring to you the award-winning, foolproof guide for surviving a week of intense schooling.

1. Drink lots of water. My major vice in life (aside from being a lazy sloth about 50% of the time--hence my stress this week) is my addiction to caffeine. I drink so much coffee/Red Bull when I am studying that I feel like I'm dehydrated all the time. So, I use this dandy little water bottle, which I fill up probably 4 times a day.

2. Find productive distractions. I like to take breaks only to work out, because it keeps my body alive and alert even though I am spending about 12 hours in a chair hunched over my notebook. But if the gym isn't your scene, even taking a quick walk around the block can work wonders for your focus, sanity, and general well-being. Or take a break to read a magazine, stalk that cute boy in your class on facebook, or call your mom. Anything that takes your mind off studying for a little while is in my book very healthy.

3. Make schedules. I generally live by schedules anyway, but they are particularly useful when studying. I make myself detailed time break downs: exactly what I am going to do and exactly how long I'm going to do it. (FYI: writing this blog was not featured in today's schedule. Oops!)

4. Eat healthy. I try to embody this one all the time, but it's something that I focus on when I'm stressed. During finals week, I do nothing all day except study. I am one of those people who eat when they are bored (lucky me!), so I have to make a conscious effort to assess my hunger level and proceed accordingly. When I eat junk food while studying, it just sits in my stomach and I feel horrible. I just made a list of my favorite study foods: oatmeal, apples with peanut butter, cereal, and popcorn. Wow I'm boring.

and finally, and most importantly,

5. Remember that this isn't real life. It is highly unlikely that these three midterms will have a heavy impact on the rest of my life. Sure, they might affect my grades this semester, but when I look back on my college experience I'm never going to remember the essays I wrote or the multiple choice questions I got wrong. I tend to be really hard on myself, especially when it comes to school/grades, but I am constantly working to be more accepting of my flaws. Whenever I'm stressed, I remind myself that it's all small stuff. It's surprisingly helpful.

Well my bloggies, it's time to lock myself back in my study dungeon. I hope this guide is helpful (I know it helped me to write it all out!). Probs won't be back until Thursday (which I am affectionately calling "Champagne Day," for no reason in particular, mother), so until then, be well!
